Wildflowers Montessori School
in Collaboration with Studio 27
Deanwood, Washington, D.C.
This project involved the renovation and expansion of an existing single-family home into a children's learning facility, incorporating Montessori principles to create a child-centered environment. POM Studio led the design consultation, ensuring the space was reimagined to promote exploration, independence, and hands-on learning. The layout was transformed with open, flexible spaces that encourage movement and engagement, while functional and playful materials, child-sized furniture, and thoughtful design elements foster autonomy and creativity.
The interior design features a carefully curated color palette that balances stimulating and calming tones to create a warm, inviting atmosphere. Every detail, from low shelves to appropriately scaled seating, aligns with Montessori principles of independence and accessibility. The result is a harmonious space that blends educational best practices with architectural intent, offering a supportive environment for children to explore, learn, and grow.
