Lee Montessori Classrooms

Southeast, Washington, D.C.

This newly constructed two-story school is designed to be a vibrant, dynamic learning environment, bursting with color and character to engage students throughout their day. POM Studio’s role was to enhance the functionality of the classrooms by introducing a carefully planned sink and millwork area that not only improved the space's practicality but also fostered visual connectivity between adjacent areas. The strategic placement of these features helped to maintain an open, interactive atmosphere, allowing for better flow and accessibility within the classrooms.

To further enrich the design, each classroom’s sink area is paired with a distinct color, thoughtfully aligned with the window alcoves in the hallways. This color coordination creates a cohesive visual language that ties together the classroom and common areas, reinforcing the school’s playful aesthetic. The renovation seamlessly integrates these new elements with the existing architecture, enhancing both the functionality of the spaces and the overall design. The result is a school environment that supports a creative and inspiring educational experience, encouraging both interaction and exploration.
