Alabama Cupola

Congress Heights, Washington, DC

This project centered on the meticulous reconstruction of a historic church cupola, which suffered significant damage from an electrical fire. The restoration process prioritized historical accuracy, with careful attention given to recreating the intricate molding profiles and trim that defined the original late 1890s design. To further highlight the architectural beauty of the cupola, strategically placed exterior lighting was introduced, enhancing its presence against the night sky.

Inside the main sanctuary, a series of cosmetic restorations were undertaken to preserve the church’s historic integrity. Plaster finishes were repaired to maintain the space’s traditional character, period-appropriate light fixtures were installed to enhance illumination while respecting the original design intent, and the existing wood trim was meticulously restored, bringing warmth and craftsmanship back to the interior. This restoration seamlessly blends historical reverence with thoughtful enhancements, ensuring the church remains a cherished architectural landmark.
