Bee House
Takoma Park, Washington, D.C.
This home, located in the charming community of Takoma Park in Northwest D.C., underwent significant renovations that transformed its overall aesthetic and functionality. We meticulously redesigned the sunroom, added an ensuite bathroom to the second floor bedrooms, and constructed an entirely new third floor to enhance the living space. These thoughtful changes enabled the incorporation of energy-saving strategies and introduced unique facades that elevate the home's character. Specifically, a butterfly roof was installed with a green roof above, paired with an innovative rainwater gutter system that channels water efficiently away from the property and enhances sustainability. Additionally, the client opted for an asymmetrical main roof design that complements the new sunroom while optimizing solar panel placement for maximum efficiency. The dark-toned siding of the house creatively mimics the traditional Sho Sugi Ban technique, which not only enhances its visual appeal but also significantly increases durability against extreme weather conditions.
